I organize and recombine fixed sets of found or invented elements in order to create work that is discovered rather than composed, decoding systems embedded in our visual culture. By working within prescribed parameters and self-imposed limitation, I seek to create work that coaxes meaning from process and material. I use as subjects the by-products of industrial printing processes; off-cuts and test patterns from the margins of product packaging and printed corporate collateral act as raw material and blueprint, dictating the work’s final shape through their own formal logic and systems of arrangement I determine. In this way I fashion explorations of pattern and arrangement that conjure op-art and color theory experiments, and are suggestive of textiles and grid-based abstract painting
